Acceptable Use Policy

This policy outlines acceptable and prohibited uses of Staged software and our community platforms. All users are expected to follow these guidelines.

1. Overview

This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") governs your use of Staged software, the Staged website (https://staged.gg), and all associated community platforms including Discord, GitHub, Reddit, and other official channels.

By using Staged or participating in our community, you agree to comply with this policy. We reserve the right to take appropriate action against any user who violates these guidelines, including suspension or termination of access.

This AUP supplements our Terms of Service and End User License Agreement. In case of conflict, the more restrictive provision applies.

2. Permitted Uses

Staged is designed to enhance your gaming and streaming experience. You are encouraged to use the Software for:

2.1 Gaming

  • Creating custom screen layouts for single-player and multiplayer games
  • Running games at different resolutions on large displays
  • Organizing companion apps alongside your game
  • Using dimming and HDR features for immersive experiences
  • Competitive gaming where virtual displays are permitted by game rules

2.2 Streaming and Content Creation

  • Setting up streaming layouts with OBS, chat, and alerts
  • Creating content for YouTube, Twitch, Kick, and other platforms
  • Recording gameplay with clean capture areas
  • Professional broadcasting setups

2.3 Development and Contribution

  • Modifying the source code for personal use
  • Contributing to the project via GitHub pull requests
  • Creating plugins, extensions, or integrations
  • Building tools that enhance Staged functionality
  • Forking the project for derivative works (per MIT License)

2.4 Commercial Use

  • Using Staged in commercial streaming or content creation
  • Incorporating Staged into commercial products (per MIT License)
  • Offering services that utilize Staged

3. Prohibited Uses

The following uses of Staged software are strictly prohibited. Violations may result in immediate action including account suspension and legal consequences.

3.1 Malware and Security Threats

You must NOT use Staged to:

  • Create, distribute, or deploy malware, viruses, worms, trojans, or other malicious code
  • Develop tools for unauthorized access to systems, networks, or accounts
  • Conduct denial-of-service attacks or other disruptive activities
  • Exploit security vulnerabilities in any software or system
  • Intercept, monitor, or redirect network traffic without authorization
  • Distribute modified versions containing malicious functionality

3.2 Cheating and Game Exploitation

You must NOT use Staged to:

  • Gain unfair advantages in competitive multiplayer games
  • Bypass, circumvent, or interfere with anti-cheat systems
  • Create or use aimbots, wallhacks, speed hacks, or similar cheats
  • Exploit game bugs or glitches for competitive advantage
  • Manipulate game rankings, matchmaking, or leaderboards
  • Violate the terms of service of any game or gaming platform

Note: Using virtual displays in competitive games is at your own risk. Some anti-cheat systems may detect Staged even when used legitimately. We are not responsible for any game bans or penalties.

3.3 Illegal Activities

You must NOT use Staged for:

  • Any activity that violates applicable local, state, national, or international laws
  • Pirating, distributing, or facilitating access to copyrighted content
  • Fraud, identity theft, or financial crimes
  • Harassment, stalking, or threatening behavior
  • Distribution of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) or exploitation content
  • Terrorism, violence, or incitement thereof

3.4 Harmful Content

You must NOT use Staged to create, display, or distribute:

  • Content that promotes hatred, discrimination, or violence against individuals or groups
  • Sexually explicit content involving minors
  • Content that promotes self-harm or suicide
  • Disinformation or deceptive content designed to mislead
  • Content that infringes on intellectual property rights

3.5 System Abuse

You must NOT:

  • Attempt to reverse engineer Staged's binary components beyond what's permitted by law
  • Remove or modify copyright notices, license information, or attribution
  • Misrepresent your affiliation with Staged or impersonate Staged staff
  • Use Staged branding in a misleading or unauthorized manner
  • Distribute Staged as part of bundled software without clear disclosure

4. Community Guidelines

Our community platforms are spaces for collaboration, support, and discussion. We expect all members to contribute positively and respectfully.

4.1 Discord Server

Our Discord server (https://discord.gg/staged) has specific rules that all members must follow:

  • Be Respectful: Treat all members with courtesy and respect
  • Stay On Topic: Use appropriate channels for different discussions
  • No Spam: Avoid excessive posting, self-promotion, or advertising
  • No NSFW: Keep all content safe for work and appropriate
  • English Primary: Use English in public channels for accessibility
  • No Drama: Personal disputes should be handled privately
  • Follow Discord ToS: Comply with Discord's Terms of Service

4.2 GitHub

When participating on our GitHub repository (https://github.com/staged-app/staged):

  • Quality Contributions: Submit well-documented, tested code
  • Constructive Feedback: Provide helpful, actionable feedback on issues and PRs
  • Follow Guidelines: Adhere to our contribution guidelines
  • Respect Decisions: Accept maintainer decisions on PRs and issues
  • No Spam Issues: Search before creating duplicate issues
  • Security Disclosure: Report security issues privately, not in public issues

4.3 General Conduct

Across all platforms:

  • Do not harass, bully, or intimidate other community members
  • Do not share personal information about others without consent
  • Do not engage in hate speech or discriminatory behavior
  • Do not post illegal content or encourage illegal activities
  • Do not impersonate Staged staff or moderators
  • Report violations to moderators or administrators

5. Consequences of Violation

Violations of this Acceptable Use Policy may result in consequences depending on the severity and nature of the violation.

5.1 Enforcement Actions

  • Warning: First-time minor violations may receive a warning
  • Temporary Suspension: Temporary ban from community platforms
  • Permanent Ban: Permanent removal from all community platforms
  • License Termination: Revocation of EULA for severe violations
  • Legal Action: Referral to law enforcement for illegal activities

5.2 Factors Considered

When determining consequences, we consider:

  • Severity of the violation
  • Whether the violation was intentional
  • History of previous violations
  • Impact on other users or the community
  • Cooperation with investigation
  • Willingness to make amends

5.3 Appeals

If you believe an enforcement action was made in error, you may appeal by contacting us at hello@staged.gg. Include:

  • Your username/identifier
  • The action taken against you
  • Your explanation or evidence
  • Why you believe the decision should be reversed

Appeals will be reviewed within 14 days. Decisions on appeals are final.

6. Reporting Violations

If you encounter behavior that violates this policy, please report it so we can take appropriate action.

6.1 How to Report

  • Discord: Use the report feature or contact a moderator directly
  • GitHub: Use GitHub's reporting tools or open an issue (for non-security matters)
  • Email: Send detailed reports to hello@staged.gg

6.2 What to Include

When reporting a violation, please provide:

  • Description of the violation
  • Username or identifier of the violator
  • Date and time of the incident
  • Screenshots or evidence (if available)
  • Any other relevant context

6.3 Confidentiality

All reports are treated confidentially. We will not disclose your identity to the reported party without your consent, except where required by law.

6.4 Security Vulnerabilities

For security vulnerabilities, please do NOT post publicly. Instead, contact us directly at hello@staged.gg with:

  • Description of the vulnerability
  • Steps to reproduce
  • Potential impact
  • Any suggested fixes (optional)

We appreciate responsible disclosure and will acknowledge your contribution.
